‘You are not thinking about the team at all’ – Shakib Al Hasan’s scathing attack on Tamim Iqbal ahead of ODI World Cup 2023

The Bangladesh team has been gearing up for the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, they had performed magnificently during the Asia Cup 2023 as they made their way to the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2023. Notably, the Shakib-Al-Hasan-led side failed to enter the final; however, they beat top-class team India during the last match of the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2023.

However, the squad is going through an awful phase ahead of the marquee event. Notably, former ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal has opted out of the ODI World Cup squad. Following the same, Bangladesh skipper Shakib-Al-Hasan has lashed out at the cricketer. According to sources, Tamim Iqbal wants to bat in the top order, but management pushes him to bat in the middle order. This decision forced him to make himself unavailable for the ODI World Cup.

“It is totally childish. It is my bat, I will play. No one else can play. A player should bat at any position for the team. Team first,” Shakib-Al-Hasan said.

You are a team man when you agree to such a proposal: Shakib-Al-Hasan

Meanwhile, the great all-rounder feels the star opening batter wasn’t thinking about the team. The 36-year-old skipper says Iqbal should be able to bat in any position and should understand where the team needs him the most. In addition, the southpaw reveals that there is no sense of Tamim scoring centuries at the top if the team fails to win. Moreover, the slow left arm spinner also says that the star opener only wanted to achieve his personal desires over team expectations.

“You are not thinking about the team at all. People don’t understand these things. Why was the proposal given to him? It was for the team. What is wrong with that? You are a team man when you agree to such a proposal. It doesn’t make any difference if you have made 100 or 200, and the team loses. What can you do with personal achievement? You want to make a name for yourself?,,” he added further.
