ODI World Cup 2023

Yuvraj Singh points out ‘question mark’ for Team India heading into ODI World Cup 2023

India is all set to host the upcoming Men’s ODI World Cup, commencing on October 5. Notably, the Men in Blue last lifted the World Cup in 2011 under the captaincy of legendary cricketer MS Dhoni after defeating Sri Lanka in the final match at Wankhede Stadium. In addition, India won that World Cup for the first time as the host, and this time also, Rohit Sharma’s side has the advantage of playing on their home soil.

Meanwhile, with just less than two months left for the mega tournament, a plethora of cricket experts are sharing their views and perspectives on India’s chances of winning this time as the host. Speaking on the same subject, former India Cricketer Yuvraj Singh feels that India has fewer chances of winning the upcoming World Cup.

That’s the question mark – the middle order is not ready: Yuvraj Singh

In addition, the former all-rounder feels that there are a lot of concerns in the middle order owing to the injuries of the players, and if those concerns won’t be solved, then the Men in Blue will feel great pressure, especially in the big games. Moreover, the 41-year-old cricketer reveals that the skillsets of players are different from opening the game to playing in the middle order. Meanwhile, the 2011 World Cup winner also states that somebody has to work on India’s middle order ahead of the mega tournament.

“I can be a patriot and say ‘India will win because I am an Indian.’ But I see a lot of concerns in the Indian middle order because of injuries. If those concerns are not resolved, we will struggle, especially in pressure games. Don’t experiment in pressure games. The skill work to bat in the middle order is very different from that of an opener. Is there anybody there (in the team management) who is working around the guys that will be playing in the middle order? That’s the question mark – the middle order is not ready, so someone will have to make them ready,”  Yuvraj said on the Cricket Basu YouTube channel.
