5 women cricketers who missed their century in ODIs after reaching so close to the mark

It’s undeniable that every female cricketer not only dreams of building a solid partnership but also hopes to score a century. Stil however some get so close and get out at 97, 98, or 99 runs and miss the century. On the same note, we will look here at the top five females who missed the milestone of 100 runs in the ODIs.

Bismah Maroof

Notably, on March 13, 2015, Pakistan skipper Bismah Maroof was run out for 99 runs. The star batter’s knock included seven boundaries with an impressive strike rate of 77. Earlier on that day, Pakistan posted a great total of 216 runs during the first ODI against South Africa while batting first. In reply, while chasing, South Africa were only able to rack up 159 runs. Later after the match she was awarded the Player of the Match award.

Carol-Ann James

Notably, on December 20, 1997, former West Indies batter Carol-Ann James scored an unbeaten 99 runs against Denmark. The match was reduced to 45 overs for both sides after the heavy rain during the Hero Honda Women’s World Cup in Delhi, India. Earlier, on that day, the West Indies posted 229 runs on board. Later, while replying, the Denmark team collapsed to 128 runs, handing a 101-run victory to the West Indies. The former middle-order batter was later given the Player of the Match award.

Jane Powell

Notably, on July 19, 1990, during the Women’s European Championship, former English skipper Jane Powell scored an unbeaten 98 runs from just 103 balls while featuring 16 boundaries against Denmark. Earlier, on that day, England Women posted a score of 270/5 in 54 overs. Following that, while chasing, the Denmark team was all dismissed for just 64 runs, handing 206 runs of victory to the home team.

Sara McGlashan

Notably, on August 23, 2007, former New Zealand batter Sara McGlashan scored an unbeaten 97 runs from 94 balls against England. The star batter’s knock included 13 boundaries against the home team. Earlier, on that day, the home team batted first and posted a score of 240/3 against New Zealand. Later, while chasing, the visitors rack up the total in just 35.4 overs.

Asha Rawat

Notably, on May 11, 2008, former India batter Asha Rawat scored a magnificent 97-run knock against Sri Lanka during the 2008 Asia Cup Final. The former top-order batter had a brilliant partnership with Mithali Raj to post a total of 260 runs. Later, while chasing, the Sri Lanka team was all dismissed for just 83 runs, handing the title of  Asia Cup to the Mithali Raj-led Indian side.
