‘Sida bol only IPL kelhna ha’- Fans not happy after Wriddhiman Saha refused to play in Duleep Trophy
Indian Wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha has refused to play in the upcoming Duleep Trophy. He has stated firmly that he would not return to the Indian squad and so does not wish to obstruct the progress of any new players. Since making his Test debut in 2010, Wriddhiman Saha has scored 1353 runs in 56 innings at an average of 29.4.
After Ishan Kishan opted not to play in the Duleep Trophy, the selectors of East Zone selected Wriddhiman Saha as a replacement. But he also refused to play in the tournament.
There is no point in playing the Duleep Trophy: Wriddhiman Saha
According to PTI, Wriddhiman Saha said, “There is no point in playing the Duleep Trophy if I don’t get an opportunity at the international level. A young player should get a chance there instead of me. So that he can try to get a place in the Indian team.”
Following the rejection of Saha, the selectors have named Abhishek Porel as the Eastern Division’s third-choice wicket-keeper batsman for the upcoming Duleep Trophy. Abhimanyu Easwaran will be leading the East Zone squad in the forthcoming Duleep Trophy 2023, which begins on June 28 in Bengaluru.
Surprisingly, Rajasthan Royals(RR) all-rounder Riyan Parag has been included in the East Zone team of 15 players. Despite a disappointing season with the RR in the IPL 2023. All-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed and pacer Mukesh Kumar round out the squad’s depth and variety. Notably, Bengal’s potential fast bowler Ishan Porel and spinner Anukul Roy have been picked in the team for their consistent performances.
One of the East Zone selection committee members stated, “As he is a senior India regular in the white-ball format, he would have been the captain. Chakraborty spoke to Ishan over the phone and informed us that he is not interested in playing in the Duleep Trophy. We were not informed about any injury, just that he doesn’t want to play.”
East Zone Squad:
A Easwaran (capt), Santanu Mishra, Sudip Gharami, Riyan Parag, A. Majumdar, Bipin Saurabh, A Porel (wk), K Kushagra (wk), S Nadeem (vc), Shahbaz Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep, Anukul Roy, M Mura Singh, Ishan Porel.

Dravid told him to 'move away' from India team and tied himself in knots as that would question his decision making skills

Well that isn’t a wise decision tbh. He should have played and be supportive of other 10 players around him by giving advice / suggestions. That would have been a better choice

It’s a unhealthy practice that most of the senior players of Indian cricket don’t want to play domestic cricket at all. For them their ego comes first, sports comes second.
