‘Retirement aisa lo ki 4 desh ke log manane lage’ – Fans react as Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal withdraws his retirement after speaking to PM Sheikh Hasina

Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal has withdrawn his retirement from international cricket after speaking with PM Sheikh Hasina. Iqbal, who announced his retirement in a press conference on Thursday, was asked to stay with the team and lead it in the upcoming marquee tournaments, including the World Cup and Asia Cup.

According to media reports, the Bangladesh player met with the prime minister at her mansion, along with his wife, former captain Mashrafe Mortaza, and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan. Notably, Hassan has already asked Iqbal to think about his decision after appointing Litton Das as interim skipper.

It’s worth noting that BCB has named Das as interim captain for the remaining two ODI games against Afghanistan. After failing in the first game against the visitors, Iqbal announced his retirement with tears during the press conference. His decision shocked everyone, including BCB, as they were unaware of this situation.

“This is its end”, said Tamim Iqbal while announcing his retirement

While announcing his retirement, Iqbal said, “This is the end for me. I have given my best. I have tried my best. I am retiring from international cricket at this moment. I want to thank all my teammates, coaches, BCB officials, family members, and those who have been with me through my long journey. They kept faith in me.”

“I also want to thank the fans. Your love and faith in me inspired me to give my very best for Bangladesh. I want to ask for your prayers for the next chapter of my life. Please keep me in your prayers,” he had added. Notably, Iqbal is the highest run scorer for Bangladesh in one-day internationals. He will be an important asset for them in the upcoming Asia Cup and the World Cup.
