West Indies vs India 2023
Skipper Rohit Sharma speaks ahead of India’s 100th Test match against West Indies
India are all set to play their 100th Test match against West Indies as they will take on the hosts for the second Test of a two-match series in Port of Spain, Trinidad. The Men in Blue are already 1-0 up in the series with a dominant victory in Dominica by an innings and 141 runs and will look to clinch the series against the hosts in the historic Test match.
In their 99 outings against each other, West Indies have an upper hand against India with 30 wins, while India have been victorious in 23 matches. While 46 matches have ended in a draw. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma expressed his happiness on being part of a memorable Test match between both sides and he spoke about the history between them.
“This is a big occasion. The 100th Test between India and West Indies is happening. There has been a lot of history between these two teams, ever since I was not even born (laughs). These both sides have played a lot of good cricket and entertained people. I hope this Test match will also be the same. The weather will be an issue, but our focus will be on what we can do to win the match and perform well. I am honoured to lead India in this game. To be part of these games, it does not happen often. We all are fortunate to be a part of it. They (West Indies) can bounce back, they have a good team,” Rohit said at the post-match press conference on Wednesday.
‘They are talented’ – Rohit about West Indies’ downfall
Rohit spoke further about the recent downfall in West Indies cricket. The two-time ODI World Cup champions have failed to qualify for the upcoming World Cup in India. Reacting to this, Rohit said that he is not aware of what is going on internally, but the players are talented.
“I have played a lot of cricket with them, they are talented. If they had their spinners in the first Test, there could have been a threat for us because the pitch offered a lot of turn and bounce. The game is there, but I cannot tell what is the issue internally. We do not play against them keeping their internal issues in their mind and if this or that is happening with them, but what we can do to do well against them, get some positives and win matches,” the Indian skipper further added.
