Sri Lankan cricketer Lahiru Thirimanne retires from all formats of international cricket

Sri Lankan batter Lahiru Thirimanne announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket. He issued a statement informing about his retirement. Thirimanne played his last international match in March last year. He made his international debut in 2010. Following his ODI debut in 2010, he made his Test and T20 debuts in 2011-12.

The 33-year-old has played 197 international matches for the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. He participated in his last international match against India last year. Since then he was not able to make a place in the squad. He had a lot of experience in ODIs, having played 127 ODIs.

Lahiru said in his statement, “​​It has been a matter of great honor to represent my country for many years. This sport has given me a lot over the years. But with a lot of mixed feelings, I am retiring from international cricket with immediate effect.” “Thanks a lot for the 13 years of amazing memories and well wishes throughout my journey. See you on the other side.”

“As a player I have given my best, tried my best, respected the game and done my duty honestly and ethically to my motherland. It was a difficult decision, but there were many unexpected reasons for making this decision willingly or unwillingly. I cannot mention them.”

He further added, “I would like to thank the members of the Sri Lanka Cricket team, my coaches, teammates, fitness staff, trainers and analysts for their support and encouragement. I will forever be grateful to all my fans, supporters, journalists for the love, support and motivation you have given me over the years. Thank you to all of you who have supported me behind the scenes throughout my career.”

The batter has played 127 ODIs, in which he scored 3194 runs. He scored 4 centuries and 21 half-centuries in ODIs. He scored 291 runs in 26 T20 matches, in this format he could not even score a half-century. The former Sri Lanka captain scored 2088 runs in 85 innings of 44 Test matches and has scored 3 centuries in Tests.
