West Indies call up star batter for ODI series against India

West Indies star batter Shimron Hetmyer earned a surprise comeback for the forthcoming three-match ODI series against India as the West Indies unveiled their 15-member squad on Monday. Notably, the left-handed batter hasn’t appeared in any international cricket in longer than a year. The 26-year-old batter was last seen in July 2021. On top of that, star pacer Oshane Thomas is also being called in, whereas several more players were added to the ODI squad who were injured earlier.

Shai Hope is being named again as captain

In addition, Shimron Hetmyer had a great season in the recent IPL, as the southpaw amassed 299 runs for the Rajasthan Royals. On top of that, the great middle order batters Jason Holder and Nicholas Pooran are unavailable for the series, and wicketkeeper batter Shai Hope has again been named the captain for the three ODIs against India. Notably, the West Indies were unable to qualify for the World Cup as they lost their matches in the Super Sixes round.

“We welcome Oshane and Shimron back into the group. Both have played at the international level before, with some success, and we believe they will fit well into the set-up. Oshane brings pace and is a potential wicket-taker with the new ball. Shimron’s style of batting will offer a lot, especially in the middle stage of the innings and he is also a potential ‘finisher’, Chief selector of the West Indies has said this in an official statement, which is quoted by NDTV Sports.

India won the two-match Test series by a score of 1-0

Meanwhile, the final day of play of the second Test between India and the West Indies on Monday was halted due to heavy rains. Eventually, the match was called off and declared a draw, with India winning the two-match series by a final score of 1-0. Following that, the home team is all set to lock horns again against the Rohit Sharma-led side for the three-match ODI series, which will commence on July 27 in Barbados.
