‘Happy ODI retirement Marnus’ – Fans react as Marnus Labuschagne misses out of Australia ODI World Cup squad

Team Australia has announced their 18-member squad for this year’s Men’s Cricket World Cup in India, while also including some intriguing selections in the squad. Notably, Aussie spinner Tanveer Sangha and great batter Aaron Hardie have made their way into the squad. Meanwhile, Test star batter Marnus Labuschagne has been ignored for the 50-over format.

Notably, this 18-member squad will be cut down to 15 members as per the Apex Cricket Council rules. Moreover, Australia will begin their ODI World Cup campaign on August 8 against India in Chennai. In addition, they will be playing eight ODI games ahead of the World Cup five with South Africa and three with India. Notably, these eight games will serve as a major boost for them ahead of the mega tournament.

There are still a number of games he could play before the World Cup: George Bailey

Meanwhile, the squad will be led by regular skipper Pat Cummins, despite his suffering from a wrist injury during the Ashes. In addition, the star pacer is expected to fit ahead of the 50-over World Cup.

Furthermore, Australia selector Bailey has given an update on their captain’s availability during the World Cup. Notably, he says that Cummins will be going to play a few matches ahead of the World Cup, which marks a strong preparation for him after the injury.

“We view a period of enforced rest for Pat as a positive ahead of this important World Cup campaign. There are still a number of games he could play before the World Cup which is more than enough for him to have a strong preparation,” Australia’s selection chair George Bailey said in a statement.

Australia ODI squad: Pat Cummins (captain), Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Alex Carey, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Tanveer Sangha, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa
