Sunrisers Hyderabad announce Pat Cummins as their new captain

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have announced Pat Cummins as their new captain for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. This is the third time the SRH team have changed their captain ahead of the IPL tournament. Cummins will be replacing Aiden Markram as the captain of the SRH team. He has been an amazing captain for the Australian team throughout his captaincy tenure. Recently, under Cummins’ captaincy, Australia has won the ODI World Cup 2023.

Cummins was brought by the SRH team for INR 20.50 crores. After spending a huge amount on him, it was quite evident that they wanted him to be the captain. Moreover, Markram is a great player and a captain who has led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to victory in two seasons of SA20. Nevertheless, his captaincy tenure wasn’t that good in the previous IPL season. Thus, the team might want to try out Cummins for one season.

The reason behind SRH’s defeat in the previous season was the instability of the team. There were certain changes that weren’t necessary and were happening quite frequently. Thus, they ended up at the bottom of the table with just four points. Nevertheless, this year, with a more experienced captain in the form of Pat Cummins, they’ll be looking forward to changing their fortune.

Reasons for SRH’s constant IPL failure

Sunrisers Hyderabad have one IPL trophy under their name which they won in 2016 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Post that, even though they have qualified for the playoffs several times, they have failed to win the finals. Moreover, the issue lies in the team management.

Taking the most successful teams into consideration like CSK and MI, what they do is maintain consistency in the playing 11 which SRH has failed to achieve in all these years. Constant changes in the team disturb the team’s balance as well as affect the players mentally. Thus, if they refrain from doing this, and back their players, then the results might end up in their favour.
