Asia Cup 2023
‘The Indian team’s preparation…..’ – Tim Southee feels Asia Cup will be a big part of India’s preparations for ODI World Cup
The Indian Cricket Board’s newly appointed chief selector Ajit Agarkar has announced the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, which is all set to commence on August 30. Notably, the upcoming marquee event will mark a great preparation for the teams ahead of the ODI World Cup, which will begin on October 5 in India. Meanwhile, speaking on the same subject, New Zealand skipper Tim Southee feels the Asia Cup will be a good preparation for Team India ahead of the World Cup.
In addition, the Kiwi bowler feels that the team should play more and more games ahead of the World Cup. “I guess ideally you want to play as much as you can together and to lead into a World Cup. But I think you look at the Asia Cup, and what better place to have your team together around that? I’d imagine that is going to be a big part of the Indian team’s preparation at the Asia Cup,” Tim Southee said being quoted by NDTV Sports.
I’m sure India will have solid game plans: Tim Southee
Meanwhile, the right-arm pacer feels the two great left-arm pacers the likes of Shaheen Afridi and Trent Boult can trouble Rohit Sharma’s side during the World Cup, as these two bowlers have caused a lot of headaches to the players for so many years, especially on big stages. Moreover, the bowling all-rounder has called Indian players world-class players. Furthermore, the 34-year-old skipper believes Rohit Sharma’s side will definitely have a solid plan against these great pacers.
“I don’t know what it is, but it was always handy to have a left-armer — something probably people don’t face a lot of. Shaheen Shah and Trent Boult, are quality bowlers and have caused a lot of players headaches over the years. I do not think it is too much of an issue. I’m sure the Indian players — world-class players — will have solid game plans to whoever bowler they come up against,” he added further.
