The Indian Cricket Board has recently announced the 17-member squad for the Asia Cup. Notably, the roaster has marked the comeback of star batters KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, which can boost the middle overs. In addition, Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav have also made their way into the team as backup players for the middle overs. As the team has announced, a few cricket pundits are sharing their views on batting position four. Notably, India’s great all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin is one of them.

In addition, the great spinner feels Shreyas Iyer is the right choice owing to his consistency and ability to hit shots against spinners in the middle orders. Moreover, the Rajasthan Royals bowler says Iyer played a great role in India’s success at number four. Notably, the 36-year-old cricketer feels there will be no debate for number four if Shreyas Iyer is fully fit during the Asia Cup as well as the World Cup.

“The No 4 slot is one of the most debated slots. Shreyas Iyer is extremely important to our side. He’s one of the best players in the Indian line-up against spin and a very consistent No 4 for India. He’s played a crucial role in India’s success whenever he’s played at No 4. If he’s completely fit to play, there’s no debate who should be No 4 for India,” said Ashwin on his YouTube channel, Around The World of Cricket.

Meanwhile, the Chennai-born cricketer has been very impressed with newly appointed chief selector Ajit Agarkar, as the former India cricketer has given clarity on players with India skipper Rohit Sharma during the press conference.

“This is something I found fascinating, and it’s really good. Agarkar recently took over as chairman of selectors and immediately he put emphasis on clarity. After selecting a 17-member squad and a backup for the Asia Cup, both he and the captain gave a press conference,” he added further.
