Babar Azam and Co. won the second ODI by just 1 wicket and took an unassailable 2-0 lead against Afghanistan on August 24 at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota. Notably, the match went so close towards the end, but Pakistan held their nerves to chase the target with 1 ball to spare. Notably, Afghanistan skipper Shahidi won the toss and invited the Men in Green to field first.

In addition, after opting to bat first, Afghanistan posted 300/5 in the given 50 overs owing to the superb knocks by their openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zardan, who scored 151 and 80 runs, respectively. Later, while chasing, the Pakistan team had a terrific start but lost wickets during the death overs. Notably, star all-rounder Shadab Khan and great right-arm pacer Naseem Shah sealed the series by smashing boundaries during some of the last overs.

Meanwhile, after sealing the series 2-0, skipper Babar Azam expressed his happiness and credited this win to the boys. Notably, the stylish batter says that they were looking to build up a solid partnership while chasing the target. In addition, the right-handed batter said he wanted to test himself and see where their team stood after 40 overs.

Moreover, the 28-year-old cricketer had praised Naseem Shah for his winning shot. Furthermore, the Lahore-born batter is looking forward to whitewashing the series against Afghanistan and wants to carry the winning momentum into the last and final match before taking Nepal in their first match of the Asia Cup.

“All credit to boys. When we’re starting with the bat, we just tried to get partnerships. Just wanted to see after 40 overs where we stand. Had the quality of batting later on. In crunch situations, Naseem has performed well. Always have to improve in cricket. You’re never satisfied. Have to play the natural game. Looking forward to the last match. Looking to carry the momentum,” Babar Azam said during post match presentation.
