Asia Cup 2023
‘What’s all this?’ – Former India cricketer slams selectors after KL Rahul’s inclusion in Asia Cup despite some injury
Team India’s Asia Cup squad has marked the comeback of star batters KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. Notably, during the press conference, the newly appointed chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, highlighted that KL Rahul may miss the first few matches owing to an injury, and Sanju Samson has marked his way as a backup player. Meanwhile, speaking on the same subject, former India cricketer Kris Srikkanth slammed the selection panel for including the ex-India vice-captain despite the injury.
Notably, the former India opener feels that if the LSG skipper has a niggle, he shouldn’t be included in the squad. In addition, the former right-handed batter says that selectors should not go beyond their policy to pick up the players. Moreover, the cricket analyst questioned KL Rahul’s inclusion in the main squad, whereas Sanju Samson’s inclusion as a backup player:
It’s being said that KL Rahul has a niggle: Kris Srikkanth
“It’s being said that KL Rahul has a niggle. If you have a niggle, don’t pick him in the squad. If a player is not fit during selection, you shouldn’t pick him. That was our policy. On the day of selection, if a player is not fit, don’t select him. If you want to pick him for the World Cup, select him for the World Cup. That’s a different issue. Now they are saying that he might play after a couple of matches and that’s why we have picked Sanju Samson as a travelling reserve. What’s all this,” Kris Srikkanth said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Furthermore, the 63-year-old cricketer feels India should have the best team, as the Men in Blue didn’t qualify for the final in the past two years. In addition, the Madras-born cricketer wants India to perform well and enter the final of the Asia Cup.
“You’re playing Asia Cup which is also a premier tournament. We haven’t qualified for the Asia Cup (final) over the last two editions. You have to qualify for the final and perform well,” he added further.
