‘India even failed to make it to the final’ – Wasim Akram takes indirect dig at India’s early exit during Asia Cup 2022

The Men in Blue are the most successful team in the Asia Cup, as they have won the title around seven times, followed by Sri Lanka, which has won it six times. Notably, Team India wasn’t able to make it to the final of the Asia Cup 2022 after losing to Sri Lanka and Pakistan back-to-back during the super four rounds. Meanwhile, speaking on the same subject, former Pakistani cricketer turned analyst Wasim Akram took an indirect dig at India’s early exit during the Asia Cup 2022.

In addition, the legendary cricketer says that everyone predicted it would be Pakistan vs. India’s final in the Asia Cup 2022, but Sri Lanka won the tournament. Notably, the bowling all-rounder feels anyone can win on their day. Moreover, the left-arm fast pacer named India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka as the dangerous sides ahead of the Asia Cup 2023.

Last time we had predicted an India versus Pakistan final: Wasim Akram

“Last time we had predicted an India versus Pakistan final but Sri Lanka won the competition. All three teams are dangerous — anyone can win on their day. There are other teams competing too. Last time Sri Lanka won the title, India even failed to make it to the final,” Wasim Akram said during the Asia Cup trophy unveiling in Dubai.

Furthermore, the 57-year-old cricketer believes politics and sports should always be separate from each other. In addition, the Lahore-born bowler feels sports should not get any negativity as both sides respect each other. “I have always maintained and said that politics and sports should be apart from each other. People-to-people contact is very important and the average Indian and Pakistani, they do respect each other. I hope eventually sanity prevails,” he added further.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma’s side will lock horns against Pakistan on September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka, to commence their Asia Cup journey, whereas they will be facing Nepal on September 4 at the same venue.
