Asia Cup 2023
‘Ye hai GOAT era’ – Fans react as Rohit Sharma becomes first Indian captain to win ODI by 10 wickets twice
The Men in Blue had a terrific start to their Asia Cup journey. Notably, their first match against the Babar Azam side has been abandoned as the rain played spoilsport after India’s batting. Following that, Team India registered a 10-wicket win against Nepal owing to a great partnership between India’s skipper Rohit Sharma and great opener Shubman Gill, who had scored 74 and 67 runs, respectively, in the rain-curtailed match.
Meanwhile, after an emphatic win, top-order batter Rohit Sharma became the first Indian skipper to win ODI matches by 10 wickets twice. Notably, their first ODI win by 10 wickets came against England on July 12, 2022, at the Oval in London after India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah scalped six wickets to dismantle the English set-up in the first ODI match.
We can’t really look too much into these two games: Rohit Sharma
Notably, despite winning the game by 10 wickets against Nepal, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma is not happy as his side wasn’t able to produce their best show in the first two matches. The 36-year-old skipper also clarified that they can’t get complacent any more after heading to the Super Fours. In addition, the stylish right-handed batter once again lauded Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya, who helped his team post a respectable score against the Men in Green. Moreover, the top-order batter was disappointed by the poor fielding by his side, which made them miss three catches in the first five overs of the must-win clash against Nepal.
“We haven’t been at our best, but a few guys are coming out after months out of the game. Once we move ahead in the Super Fours, there’s no room for complacency. First game, under pressure, Hardik and Ishan got us into a good position. Today our bowling was okay, but fielding was below par. We can’t really look too much into these two games, one was washed out, but luckily we got to bat in the first game and bowl in this one,” Rohit Sharma said during post-match presentation.
