‘He has gotten over it already’ – Ajit Agarkar gives huge update on KL Rahul after World Cup squad announcement

The Indian Cricket Board has revealed the 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup on September 5. Notably, the squad is almost identical to the Asia Cup squad. India’s stalwart KL Rahul has marked his comeback for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is all set to commence on October 5 in India. The 31-year-old cricketer might replace young batter Ishan Kishan as the wicketkeeper batter in the upcoming marquee event, which is all set to take place later this year.

Notably, despite being named in the Asia Cup squad, the LSG skipper stayed at the NCA to fully recover. In addition, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid confirmed that the right-handed batter is set to miss the first two matches of the Asia Cup due to a small niggle last week. Meanwhile, some reports suggest that the dashing batter has recovered and is headed towards Colombo, Sri Lanka, to join Rohit Sharma’s side ahead of the Super Fours of the ongoing Asia Cup.

KL Rahul is an important player for us: Ajit Agarkar

Meanwhile, the newly appointed chief selector of the Indian Cricket Board, Ajit Agarkar, has provided some fresh updates about India’s star batter. The former Indian cricketer clarified that KL Rahul has gotten over the injuries. In addition, the former all-rounder says that the Karnataka-born batter has been practising 50-over matches for the past few days and excelling in them, which has helped him make his way up in the squad. The 45-year-old cricketer called KL Rahul an important player for the upcoming ODI World Cup.

“KL Rahul looked really good during the training camp but picked up that niggle which we had talked about just before the Asia Cup which he had mentioned before. But he has gotten over it already. In last few days he has played two 50-over matches. Kept for 50 overs as well and batted for almost for the duration 50 overs. He is an important player for us and we are happy to have him back,” Ajit Agarkar said.
