‘He hit it over the boundary’ – Ravi Shastri heaps praise on Rohit Sharma after his stellar knock against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2023
Team India is all set to resume the game against Pakistan on September 11 at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Notably, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave a flying start to the team as both the star batters hammered half centuries. India’s stalwart Rohit Sharma scored 56 runs from 49 balls, featuring six boundaries and four sixes, on September 10.
Following his knock, a plethora of experts and former cricketers are praising him. Notably, former India cricketer turned analyst Ravi Shastri is one of them who has praised the Mumbai Indians star after his stellar knock. The former India head coach feels that whenever India’s top order batter gets the opportunity, he always smashes quick boundaries.
“There was a 10-ball phase from Naseem Shah at the start that beat him. He was trying to lay bat on ball but he could not. He went through that period and every time he got an opportunity today with anything remotely loose, he hit it over the boundary or to the boundary,” Ravi Shastri said on Star Sports.

The cricket commentator further says that Rohit Sharma did not lose a single ball during the play, which helped him get the fantastic fifty against Pakistan’s bowling attack. In addition, the former India batter says India’s skipper played with good intent despite wonderful spells by Pakistani bowlers. “Rohit did not miss out on a single lose ball today, which showed that in spite of that good spell from the bowlers, the intent was that ‘anything lose, I’m going to hit it for a boundary or six’,” he added further.
Meanwhile, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma is in second place on the list of leading run scorers in the ODI Asia Cup. The star batter has accumulated 886 runs in 25 ODIs. However, the first spot is grabbed by legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who has racked up 971 runs from 23 ODIs in his cricketing tenure.
