WATCH: Team India Women receives great welcome at airport after winning Gold Medal at Asian Games 2023

Team India Women received a warm welcome at Mumbai Airport on September 27 after winning the historic gold medal at the Asian Games 2023 on September 25 in Hangzhou, China. Notably, the video that went viral spotted India’s great batters, Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues, receiving a warm welcome from their friends and family members at the airport.

Notably, India’s vice captain Smriti Mandhana led the side in the first two games, while regular skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was suffering from the ban. Apex Cricket Council super imposed the ban on India’s skipper as she smashed the stumps and criticized on field umpires for her dismissal in the third ODI against Bangladesh in July this year.

Meanwhile, Team India was directly able to place their spot in the quarterfinal owing to their ranking in the T20I format. Following the same, they headed to the semifinals after rain halted the play against Malaysia in the quarterfinal. In addition, the Women in Blue defeated Bangladesh in the semifinals to secure their berth in the final of the Asian Games 2023. Speaking about the final match, the Harmanpreet Kaur side posted a low total of 116/7 in the given 20 overs. Later, they were able to defend their low target, which helped them get the gold medal against Sri Lanka in the final game.

“This is very special. We have seen this on TV. When Neeraj Chopra won the Gold, I had a match… the manner in which the National Anthem was played and India’s National Flag went up, I think it was pretty special and I had tears in my eyes… really happy that we could contribute to the medal tally of the Indian contingent… gold is gold… really happy that we gave our best today,” Smriti Mandhana told ANI.
