‘He should have attacked by bringing….’ – Former Pakistan’s cricketers slams Babar Azam after shocking defeat over Afghanistan

The Pakistan cricket team suffered a heartbreaking NRR defeat against Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup 2023 on October 23 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Babar Azam and Co. have suffered back-to-back three losses in the ongoing marquee event despite a stellar start to their campaign. Following the loss, a plethora of former cricketers and experts have been slamming Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam for his poor captaincy against the mediocre Afghan side.

Former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik feels the 28-year-old skipper, Babar Azam, is responsible for Pakistan’s loss over the Shahidi-led Afghanistan side in Chennai. In addition, the legendary cricketer said that the Lahore-born skipper can do wonders as the batsman, but he can’t serve as the leader.

“The guy who is most responsible is captain. As a batsman he is king but as a leader, he is not,” Shoaib Malik said.

Not a single thing Babar Azam has learnt over the period of time: Moin Khan

Meanwhile, former Pakistani skipper Moin Khan has lashed out at Babar Azam, saying he feels the skipper hasn’t learned from the past four years of his captaincy. The former Pakistan skipper says that Babar Azam does not do anything when the team needs to put extra pressure on the opponents in a tough or tricky situation. Moreover, Moin Khan affirms that Babar Azam needs to bring tactical and pragmatic skills to the game to win the ODI World Cup 2023. The 52-year-old cricketer feels the Men in Green should have attacked Afghanistan’s side in their clash at the marquee event by bringing some great skills to the situation.

“He is leading the side for the past four years. He has led the team in almost all the big events. Not a single thing he has learnt over the period of time. When you need to apply pressure, he is not doing anything. When you need wickets, you don’t see the close-in fielders. You need to bring those strategies. We were playing against Afghanistan, he should have attacked by bringing the close-in fielders,” Moin Khan said.
