‘Ye badi acchi baat kahi hai apne’ – Fans react as Kane Williamson reveals his favourite player in world

Kane Williamson is eager for a victory as he captains New Zealand in their final league match of the Cricket World Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka. This match holds the significance of a virtual quarter-final for the Black Caps, as a win would secure their spot in the semi-finals, while a loss would deal a significant blow to their chances.

Williamson has faced challenges with injuries, having suffered a knee injury during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Despite recovering in time to travel to India, he encountered another setback when a throw hit him, resulting in a thumb injury during a match. In terms of his cricketing journey, Williamson stands among the premier contemporary batsmen, being part of the esteemed Fab 4 alongside Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, and Joe Root.

During an interview with Star Sports, Williamson discussed his favourite current cricketer and his childhood idol. He revealed that growing up, he idolized the legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar. Currently, his favourite player is none other than Virat Kohli, the formidable Indian batter who also shares a close friendship with the New Zealand captain.

New Zealand have had slim slim-picking tournament so far

New Zealand had an impressive beginning in the World Cup, securing victory in their first four matches and appearing poised for a semi-final qualification. However, their fortunes took a downturn when they faced India in the fifth match. The Black Caps subsequently experienced a string of defeats in the following four matches, making their journey to the semi-finals considerably challenging. Today’s crucial match against Sri Lanka demands a win to reach 10 points, coupled with the hope that Pakistan and Afghanistan do not secure substantial victories in their respective last matches. After winning the toss in the match against Sri Lanka, Williamson expressed their intention to tackle the challenges from their previous league match.

“We’ve opted to bowl first with some weather uncertainties. Our journey has seen a mix of wins and losses, with some close encounters. Today, we aim to confront the issues at hand. Lockie replaces Ish Sodhi as we adapt to the present situation and aim to capitalize on the early use of the ball,” stated Williamson.
