‘If they continue to play like how they have…..’ – Sourav Ganguly backs Team India to beat Australia in ODI World Cup 2023 final
The stage is all set for the final clash of the ODI World Cup 2023 between hosts India and five-time world champions Australia, which will take place on November 19 at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium. Notably, Team India thrashed New Zealand in the semi-final by 70 runs to qualify for the finals. On the other hand, Pat Cummins and Co. beat a strong and in-form South Africa in their recent clash at the marquee event.
Speaking of India’s campaign, the hosts have yet to suffer a defeat in the tournament. Notably, Rohit Sharma and Co. are currently unbeaten and have fished at the top of the league stage with nine of the nine wins in the event. Team India has thrashed Australia in their opening game despite being reduced to 2/3. Following that, they outclassed all eight teams and were the first team to reach the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Australia had an awful start to their campaign as they suffered two defeats against Team India and South Africa in their opening matches. However, their side didn’t look back and went on to win seven matches and finish in third place in the league stage. Following that, they completely outclassed South Africa in the semi-final.
India is looking smashing at the moment: Sourav Ganguly
However, ahead of the showdown, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly called Team India unstoppable. The former Indian Cricket Board President feels only Australia is standing between Team India and the ODI World Cup 2023 Trophy. In addition, the legendary cricketer feels it will be tough for opponents to stop the hosts if they continue with their solid form in the marquee event.
“India is looking smashing at the moment. I wish them all the best for Ahmedabad. India have played very well in the tournament, and just one match and Australia stand between them and the World Cup trophy. If India continue to play like how they have performed in the tournament so far, then it will be tough to stop them. It will be a good match as Australia has a good team as well,” Sourav Ganguly said.
