‘Great Escape for LSG’ – Fans react to Avesh Khan and Devdutt Padikkal being traded ahead of IPL 2024 auctions
IPL 2024 auction is just around the corner but the news is coming thick and fast as the trade window is heating up. Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals have traded Avesh Khan and Devdutt Padikkal ahead of the new season.
The trade-in question has been in the works for a while with the swap deal being finalized last week. Once the Indian Cricket Board gives its go ahead the two players can make a move ahead of the IPL 2024 auctions in Dubai on the 19th of December.
Avesh Khan is currently with the Indian squad for the five-match T20I series against Australia which begins on Thursday. Devdutt Padikkal meanwhile is trying to make it back to the Indian team after a few disappointing seasons in the IPL.
Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals swap players –
Former IPL winners are set to welcome Avesh Khan from Lucknow Super Giants while Devdutt Padikkal will go the other way. The moves comes just a few weeks before the IPL 2024 auctions. KL Rahul led Lucknow Super Giants had paid INR 10 Crores for Avesh Khan during the auctions. Rajasthan Royals meanwhile had paid close to INR 8 Crores to acquire the services of Devdutt Padikkal.
Both the players will like the change of teams as their performances haven’t been up to the mark in the last few years. Devdutt Padikkal was earmarked to be part of the Indian team but hasn’t lived up to the billing. Barring a few T20 games in 2021, the 23-year-old isn’t anywhere close to selection for the Indian team.
Avesh Khan played for India last year and was part of the gold medal-winning team of the Asian Games a few months ago. The 26-year-old has played 16 T20 Games for India and just 5 ODI matches after making his debut in 2022.
Kumar Sangakkara has heaped praise on Avesh Khan and said “Avesh has proved his mettle in recent years to be one of the top Indian pacers in the country. He has the ability to both swing and seam the ball and is an effective asset at both the start of the innings and towards the end”
The former Sri Lankan legend who is director of cricket at RR also said “He has a lot of variations in his armor which will be extremely valuable in the different conditions that we play in across the country”
