‘Yeah that’s a pity…..’ – Former Australia cricketer expresses disappointment with drama engulfing Pakistan team ahead of Australian tour
The Pakistan cricket team has had an awful campaign for the ODI World Cup 2023, as their side was unable to reach the playoffs despite a great start in the marquee event in the host country, India. Notably, Babar Azam resigned himself from the captaincy after he was criticised throughout the whole tournament. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shan Masood have been appointed white ball and red ball format skippers, respectively.
However, former Australia skipper Ian Chappell had praise for former Pakistan skipper Babar while calling him a good player. The former batting legend feels Pakistan can find new captains after Babar stepped down from the position. However, the top-order batter took a slight dig at the Men in Green for their ability to change the captaincy frequently.
“Yeah that’s a pity, I think Babar’s a very good player. He’s not leaving the Pakistan side and maybe they can find a better captain. But it’s typical of Pakistan, they change captains (frequently),” Ian Chappell said.
The problem with Pakistan is they don’t have a great record in Australia: Ian Chappell
Meanwhile, the Men in Green will now face Australia for the three matches of the Test series, scheduled to commence on December 14 in Perth. The legendary cricketer reiterated that the Pakistan team doesn’t have great records against Australia despite having great batters and bowlers in the squad. In addition, the former Aussie skipper also talks about the strength of the current Australian squad, which can dominate Pakistan in the upcoming series.
“The problem with Pakistan is they don’t have a great record in Australia, even when they had good sides who could bat and bowl. They’ve got some good quickies at the moment but the bounce of Australian pitches has always troubled them. If you look at the Australian side, they might be on the wane a bit, particularly when Warner goes but they’ve still got a very good attack and it’s a good pace attack. Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood, those blokes will worry Pakistan with that extra bounce,” he added further.
