Outgoing Indian coach Rahul Dravid is set to embrace the IPL fold once again. The 50-year-old is set to become the team mentor for the IPL 2024 season once he steps down as the coach of the Indian Cricket Team.

After the ODI World Cup 2023 final loss to Australia, it was reported that Rahul Dravid is set to step down as the coach. The Indian side had played a near perfect tournament and had reached the final under the guidance of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid.

The Indian Cricket Board is set to sit down with Rahul Dravid soon and talk about his future plans. In the interim, VVS Laxman is coaching the Indian team during the T20I series against Australia led by Suryakumar Yadav.

Rahul Dravid set for mentorship role in the IPL?

Indian stalwart Rahul Dravid is set to replace Gautam Gambhir as the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the IPL 2024 season. The 50-year-old has been offered a two-year contract to offer his services to the team.

Just a few days ago, one Indian Cricket Board source had told the media about the potential move without naming the team. Gautam Gambhir was the team mentor at LSG during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

The former India opener has gone back to Kolkata Knight Riders and is now set to mentor the Shah Rukh Khan-owned team. It is to be noted that it was under Gautam Gambhir as the KKR skipper did the Eden Gardens-based unit won both their IPL titles in 2012 and 2014.

According to sources, it has been revealed that the Indian Cricket Board is set to open talks with Rahul Dravid. The 50-year-old will express his unwillingness to continue as the Indian Cricket Team coach as he wants to spend more time around his family.

Former Indian teammate VVS Laxman will soon be unveiled as the Indian team coach. The 49-year-old’s first assignment will be the tour of South Africa which begins in December. The next big challenge will be the home series against England where India will host a five-match –test series.

Lucknow Super Giants has already named Justin Langer as the head coach replacing Andy Flower who stepped down at the end of the last season.
