“RCB did a huge favor to Mumbai….”- Aakash Chopra on MI trades Cameron Green to RCB in all-cash deal ahead of IPL auctions 2024

India’s vice captain, Hardik Pandya, who led the Gujarat Titans back in the IPL 2022 and 2023, has finally returned to his old franchise, the Mumbai Indians, ahead of the IPL 2024. However, the Mumbai Indians released Cameron Green, who later got traded to RCB to get the funds in MI to bring Pandya back into their camp.

Notably, a plethora of former cricketers and cricket experts have opened up about this trade. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra is one of them feeling that RCB has done a big favor to get Green; otherwise, MI won’t be able to purchase Hardik Pandya ahead of IPL 2024. However, the renowned cricket commentator feels MI would have also released him rather than trading with RCB.

Aakash Chopra also expressed happiness for Shubman Gill after he was appointed as the skipper of GT. The former India opener affirms that it is a fantastic and fabulous moment for Gill to have captaincy at the age of 23. However, the 46-year-old cricketer feels Kane Williamson was a better option owing to his experience and skillset as compared to Gill.

“Green has gone red or you can say RCB have gone Green. They did a huge favor to Mumbai because if this deal had not happened, the Hardik deal too wouldn’t have happened. Things have changed suddenly. It wouldn’t have been a bad idea to stop that (Hardik’s) deal by not doing this (Green’s) deal. I am seeing it from Bangalore’s perspective and not from Mumbai’s. They (MI) would have released him (Green),” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

“Shubman Gill is the new Gujarat Titans captain. A lot of things have happened to him at 23 years of age, which is fascinating and fantastic. It was almost confirmed that Shubman would become the captain as soon as Hardik left. There was a school of thought about whether Kane Williamson should be made the captain,” he added further.
