‘Bro following MS Dhoni’ – Fans react as Glenn Maxwell reveals last tournament he will probably play

Star Australia allrounder Glenn Maxwell says that the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be the culmination of his illustrious cricketing career ever. The all-rounder, who has been in sensational form throughout the year, spoke about his journey during an interview at Melbourne Airport on Wednesday.

Maxwell’s love for the IPL has been well documented, and his recent statement revealed it more. He said, “The IPL will probably be the last tournament I ever play, as I will play the IPL until I can’t walk anymore.” The statement suggests a deep emotional connection and fondness for the league that has been a significant part of his cricketing journey.

Reflecting on his IPL experience, Maxwell emphasised its crucial role in his growth as a player. “It’s just the greatest learning experience that any player could ask for,” he said. The Australian all-rounder praised the exposure to international players, the coaching staff, and the overall enriching environment that the IPL provides.

“I was talking about how good the IPL has been to me throughout my career—the people I’ve met, the coaches I have played under, the international players that you get to rub shoulders with—and how beneficial to my whole career that tournament has been.”

“Hopefully, a lot of Australians…” Glenn Maxwell reveals the T20 World Cup plan

Further speaking about the world’s richest tournament, Maxwell said that conditions in the IPL will be similar to those in the West Indies, and it will help Australia in the T20 World Cup. “You’ve been rubbing shoulders with AB [de Villiers] and Virat [Kohli] for two months, talking to them while watching other games. It’s just the greatest learning experience that any player could ask for. Hopefully, a lot of our Australian players can get over to the IPL and get to work in slightly similar conditions to the West Indies, where it is a little bit drier, it will spin,” he further added.

Maxwell in 2023 has been nothing short of spectacular, with a stellar performance in the ODI World Cup, where he smashed a remarkable double hundred against Afghanistan. However, the catalyst for this phenomenal run can be traced back to his exploits in the IPL 2023, where he represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

In the 14 matches he played, Maxwell amassed 400 runs at an impressive average of 33.33 and a striking strike rate of 183.49. Notable among his innings was a blistering 36-ball 76 against the Chennai Super Kings at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In addition to his batting prowess, Maxwell also showcased his bowling skills, claiming three wickets in seven innings.
