‘Chalo Kahi toh jeete ye’ – Fans react as Pakistan U/19 defeat India U/19 by eight wickets in ACC U/19 Asia Cup 2023
Pakistan secured an eight-wicket victory over India in the 5th match of the Under-19 Asia Cup 2023. The match, held at the ACC Academy Ground in Dubai, saw India posting a total of 259 runs after losing 9 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Key contributors to India’s innings were Adarsh Singh, Uday, and Sachin, each scoring half-centuries. In a successful response, Pakistan chased down the target with 18 balls to spare, courtesy of Azaan Awais’s century.
In pursuit of the 260-run target, Pakistan lost opener Shamil Hussain early in the fifth over, managing only eight runs off 15 balls. Subsequently, Shahzeb Khan and Azaan Awais assumed control, building a 110-run partnership for the second wicket. Shahzeb departed after scoring 63 runs in 88 balls. Azaan, alongside captain Saad Bag, forged a crucial 125-run alliance for the third wicket, steering the team to victory. Azaan Awais remained unbeaten with a century, scoring 105 runs off 130 balls, while Saad contributed 68 runs off 51 balls. Abhishek claimed two wickets for India.
India had a bright start to the match
India’s opening pair, Adarsh Singh and Arshin Kulkarni posted a steady start, scoring 39 runs. Pakistan secured the first breakthrough by dismissing Arshin Kulkarni, scoring 24, courtesy of Aamir Hasan. In the first 10 overs, India reached 42 runs with the loss of one wicket. The second setback for Team India occurred as Rudra Patel (1) made an early exit from the crease.
A partnership of 93 runs for the third wicket was forged between captain Saharan and Adarsh Singh, who was displaying brilliant batting. Adarsh Singh eventually departed after scoring 62 runs, marking India’s third setback at 139 runs. Following his dismissal, Musheer and Avneesh were also sent back to the pavilion with scores of 2 and 11, respectively. Captain Uday Sirhan, after contributing 60 runs in 98 balls, faced dismissal. Subsequently, Abhishek (4 runs) and Raj (7 runs) were dismissed, while Sachin Dhas scored 58 runs in 42 balls before exiting. Pakistan’s Mohammad Zeeshan claimed 4 wickets, while Ubaid Shah and Aamir Hasan took 2 wickets each.
