IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant set for new role with Delhi Capitals?
Indian Cricket fans’ wait is supposedly getting over as there is a massive update on India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. The 26-year-old is confirmed to be part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season with his Delhi Capitals (DC) side in a new possible role.
Pant had injured himself after having a terrible accident late last year. The Indian star has missed an entire year of cricketing action as he was getting rehabilitated. Sourav Ganguly who happens to be the mentor for Delhi Capitals had confirmed Pant’s return a few weeks ago.
Now that the 26-year-old is set to resume playing cricket, it will be interesting to see who leads the Delhi side. David Warner was named the skipper of Delhi Capitals side and the 37-year-old saw his team finish 9th in the table.
Rishabh Pant set for new role in Delhi Capitals –
Reports are doing the rounds that Pant could be used as an impact player for the coming IPL 2024 season. Delhi Capitals do not want to burden the youngster as he looks to make it back to the field.
As per further reports, it is said that Delhi Capitals will ensure that Rishabh Pant isn’t named the designated wicket-keeper for the season. The 26-year-old has slowly started to bat but there are no reports about his wicket-keeping.
Rishabh Pant last played for India during the 2022 tour of Bangladesh in the two–match–test series. The Indian star met with a terrible accident while on his way home to meet his family. The incident happened on 29th December 2022 and once the news broke it shocked the entire nation.
India deeply missed Pant with the bat and behind the stumps especially during the World Test Championships final. The 26-year-old holds a great record against Australia and helped India to the famous Gabba test win in 2021.
While it is early days to comment, using Pant as an impact player can be a huge master stroke from Delhi Capitals. One of the reasons behind this move is to not rush Rishabh Pant into a heavy workload. This will also give David Warner a chance to continue to lead the side and possibly win Delhi its first IPL title.
