‘Awesome tribute to the great man’ – Fans react as Indian Cricket Board set to retire MS Dhoni’s iconic No. 7 jersey number
The Indian Cricket Board has decided to retire Jersey number 7 to pay tribute to former India skipper MS Dhoni. Notably, the Indian Cricket Board has already retired Jersey Number 10 to pay tribute to Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar; however, they added Jersey Number 7 as well to the elite list. Moreover, a few reports claim that the Indian Cricket Board has already told players not to wear jersey number 7.
Notably, legendary cricketer MS Dhoni has etched his name in the history books as he was the most successful skipper for Team India, who guided the Men in Blue to win all three major titles under his leadership. However, following him, no other skippers, mainly Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, were able to give a single win to Team India in major events under their leadership.
Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Board reveals that a total of 60 numbers are already given to team players. In addition, the officials also say that if the players are out of the game for a while, then their numbers won’t get distributed to any of the team players.
The Board has decided to retire MS Dhoni’s T-shirt for his contribution to the game: Indian Cricket Board
“The young players and current Indian team players have been told not to pick M S Dhoni’s Number 7 jersey. The BCCI has decided to retire Dhoni’s T-shirt for his contribution to the game. A new player can’t get No. 7, and No. 10 was already off the list of available numbers,” an Indian Cricket Board official told media.
“At present, 60-odd numbers are designated to the regulars in the Indian team and those in contention. So even if a player is out of the team for about a year or so, we don’t give away his number to a new player,” said an Indian Cricket Board official.
Meanwhile, wicketkeeper batter MS Dhoni has been retained by CSK, however, his franchise will be aiming to defend their title in the IPL 2024.
