‘May be they’ve missed out’- South Africa legend speaks on Delhi Capitals not picking Phil salt in IPL 2024 Auction

AB de Villiers has been one of the greatest players who has been playing in IPL and has been one of the most loved cricketers in India. AB de Villiers retired from all forms of cricket including IPL in October 2021. He is still remembered fondly by cricket fans all over India.

Nowadays, the cricket legend is trying his ways on YouTube, where he is quite consistent and interacts with his fans regularly to give up his views on the current happenings in cricket. Recently, on his channel ABD spoke about the IPL auctions and reviewed the picks of all the franchises in the auction.

While speaking about the strategy of Delhi Capitals, AB de Villiers was of the view that they might have missed a trick by not retaining Phil Salt in their squad. Phil Salt is currently having a fantastic run in the T20 internationals and has hit 2 centuries against the West Indies in 4 T20Is.

I love watching him play: Phil Salt

Speaking on his channel ABD said, “The planning for the IPL auction has been done months in advance. I do agree in a way. Phil Salt, I love watching him play. He is one of the hot favorites in the SA20 tournament. I saw Salt score a lot of runs for the Pretoria Capitals.”

“Yes, maybe they have missed out by not buying him or failing to retain him for the Delhi Capitals. He didn’t play much last year and maybe he disappointed some of the management. But, he’s a fantastic player and it’s a shame not to see him there.”

Phil Salt has featured in nine matches for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023 season where he scored 218 runs at a strike rate of 163.91 with two half-centuries. ABD also praised Indian star batter Rishabh Pant and hoped to see him playing for Delhi Capitals in this year’s IPL.

Speaking about Rishabh Pant, the 39-year-old legend said, “Let’s hope he does recover. It will be nice to see him run out in the Delhi Capitals colors again and hit some cricket balls like only he can. I am not sure who the replacement can be. Kumar Kushagra will be the wicketkeeper I think then.”I can’t wait to watch him play. Going for that amount of money, there must be potential there. Let’s hope Mr. Rishabh Pant plays again. He’s one of my favorite players.”
