‘Thodi izzat toh rakh dete’ – Fans react as India lose by an innings and 32 runs to South Africa during Day 3 of Boxing Day Test
At SuperSport Park in Centurion on Thursday, December 28, South Africa dismissed India for 131 runs during the second innings. That ensured that they won by an innings and 32 runs against India. Even with a 76-run knock from Virat Kohli, India could not overcome the Proteas’ first-inning lead.
Just Shubman Gill (26) scored in double digits, aside from Kohli, as the visiting team were bowled out for 131 during the second inning. After making an amazing catch, Kagiso Rabada removed Kohli, the final Indian batter. When the former captain ran out of teammates and decided to take the aerial route to score some fast runs. In that process, he found the man at long off which ended the innings.
Despite all the excitement over India perhaps crossing their last boundary, in only three days, they have been duped. And they have been outclassed, bruised, battered, and rendered to appear like amateurs by a team far more prepared for the circumstances.
In this match, South Africa was regarded as the less experienced team. The injury to Temba Bavuma further hampered them. However, their fresh guys outperformed the best-ranked Test side by playing with a great deal of maturity and discipline. A well-earned victory that keeps India hopeful about their chances of triumphing in the African country.
“We have to come together collectively” : Rohit Sharma
The Indian team captain Rohit Sharma was disappointed by his own performance as well as his side’s display during the Boxing Day Test at the Centurion. The Mumbai batter spoke to the reporters after the end of the first Test match.
The Team India skipper said, “We were not good enough to win. Having been put into bat, KL batted well to get us that score but then we didn’t exploit the conditions with the ball and then again didn’t show up today with the bat. If we have to win Test matches, we have to come together collectively and we didn’t do that. Guys have come here before, we know what to expect and everyone has their own plan. Our batters were challenged and we didn’t adapt well.”
