WATCH: Daryl Mitchell yawns just before dropping a catch of Babar Azam in slips

Pakistan Cricket Team’s former and present skippers Sarfaraz Ahmed and Babar Azam, respectively, played splendidly well on Day 1 of the first Test of the two-match series against New Zealand at the National Stadium, Karachi. The second match will be played from January 2, 2023, at the same venue.

Babar continued his brilliant form this year as he slammed another century in the Tests. On the other hand, Sarfaraz made full use of the opportunity, making a comeback after three years and 11 months. He smashed crucial 86 runs off 153 before getting dismissed to Black Caps left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel. Earlier on Monday, Babar also reached his eighth Test hundred. When he was at a score of 12 runs, Kiwi player Daryl Mitchell dropped a sitter in the slips.

The New Zealand cricketer was seen yawning just before dropping the catch, and the footage of the incident has already gone viral on social media. The Pakistan captain attempted to drive a flighted delivery of Michael Bracewell in the 15th over, but the ball took an outside edge and went into the slips.

Pakistan in control on Day 2

The 28-year-old took full advantage of this dropped catch and went on to score 161 runs at the end of the day’s play. But unfortunately, he missed his well-deserved double century, which would have been his maiden double ton in the longest format of the game. He got dismissed to the opposite number Tim Southee on the fourth ball of the second day of the Test match.

At the end of the first session of Day 2, Pakistan were 377 for 8. And for hosts, Agha Salman went past the century mark. For the New Zealand side, the pick of the bowlers was Southee with 3 wickets, complemented by Ajaz, and Bracewell with two wickets each. Left-arm fast bowler Neil Wagner bagged one wicket and leg spinner Ish Sodhi picked up two wickets.
