‘Yeh do din ka TEST match khel rahe hein’ – Fans bewildered as India slip to 153 all-out from 153/4 against South Africa in second game

In the ongoing second Test between South Africa and India, the home team won the toss and elected to bat first. However, the decision proved to be suicidal for the Proteas. With Mohammed Siraj taking his maiden six-wicket haul in Tests, the Dean Elgar-led side was bowled out for 55 runs. Apart from Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar took two each. The home side was bowled out in the first session of the game.

As the first innings ended, the Lunch break was taken as the fall of the ninth wicket meant that the play was extended. It didn’t take much for India to take the last wicket. After the Lunch Break, the Asian side started batting and skipper Rohit Sharma and number three batter Shubman Gill were doing well. Yashasvi Jaiswal lost his wicket early once again in this series. At 17/1, the likes of Sharma and Gill added 55 runs for the second wicket.

Both batters got out below forty and the likes of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were required to bat longer and take the game away from the opposition. While the former was batting quickly with 46 off 59 balls, Rahul took time with eight off 33 balls.

KL Rahul’s wicket initiates unthinkable collapse for India

Rahul tried to play an uppercut when Lungi Ngidi came to bowl the 34th over of India’s innings. This wicket led to a collapse of six wickets for no more runs. In the same over, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah got out and the team was reduced 153/7. In the next over, Kagiso Rabada took out Kohli and Mohammed Siraj got himself run out. In the end, the last batter Prasidh Krishna got out and the team was bowled out for 153.

With this, the two-time World Test Championship finalists got a lead of 98 runs. For the first time in a lot of years, 20 wickets have fallen at the time of writing on Day One. South Africa has 22/0 at the time of writing.
