Current India player heaps praises on England’s ‘Bazball’ approach ahead of 1st Test

Every five to ten years, cricket undergoes changes which adds another dimension to this already complex sport. While white ball cricket adapted itself to the changing taste of spectators by making it more fast-paced and intense, test cricket was somewhat lacking that excitement that could attract the audience to itself.

But in the recent past, teams and the top brass of management have understood that we need to transform the way we play cricket and have adapted themselves to it. We are now witnessing more sporting wickets in test matches and almost all matches are ending up having results rather than ending up in mere draws.

‘Bazball’- England’s key to resurgence in Test cricket

Among all these changes in test cricket, one thing that has got people hooked on test cricket is ‘Bazball’. It is the term given to the aggressive brand of cricket that England have been playing under the coaching of Brendon McCullum. England who were lagging in test cricket got a new life since Brendon McCullum took the coaching reigns and transformed the way England plays cricket with their aggressive approach in all aspects.

India’s veteran spin all-rounder, Ravi Ashwin has praised the Bazball approach and has admitted that this kind of approach excites him and he is well aware of how dangerous it can be.

Ravi Ashwin is impressed with Bazball Approach

While addressing ‘Bazball’ at the Indian Cricket Board’s annual award function, Ravi Ashwin said, “Bazball excites me. This kind of cricket impresses me. The fearless approach is good, and I am standing here knowing what to expect.” The offspinner won the Dilip Sardesai Award and went on to achieve the Best International Cricketer of the Year (2020-21) accolade for the second time in his career.

Ravi Ashwin has participated in 95 Test matches, and given his significant role in the team, particularly in home games, it is anticipated that he will feature in all five matches, allowing him to achieve a historic century of Test appearances. Additionally, he is merely 10 wickets away from reaching the notable milestone of 500 wickets in Test cricket, a feat accomplished so far by only one Indian player – Anil Kumble.
