‘Flat pitch pe bhi struggle kar rahe’ – Fans react to India’s mixed bag day vs England in second Test match

India ended the first day at 336/6 with Yashasvi Jaiswal batting on 179 and Ravichandran Ashwin on 5. It was a mixed bag day for India as few batters got out despite getting good starts to their innings.

Shoaib Bashir and Rehan Ahmed picked two wickets while Tom Hartley and James Anderson got one each. It was a great day of Test cricket as the two teams fought for supremacy.

It was India who batted first after winning the toss on what looked a great batting wicket. Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar came in for Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj. Experienced batter Rajat Patidar was given his Test debut in place of KL Rahul.

Yashasvi Jaiswal ton lights up the day for India –

Indian openers Rohit Sharma and young sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal added 40 for the first wicket. The stand was broken when Shoaib Bashir saw Rohit Sharma tickle the ball to Ollie Pope at leg slip. India’s skipper scored just 14 runs after playing 41 balls without a boundary.

Shubman Gill then came to the wicket and looked good right from the start. The introduction of James Anderson turned the game around once again. England’s veteran pacer induced a thick edge of Gill’s bat as Foakes dove to his right to take the catch.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer added 90 runs either side of lunch. It was during this stand that Jaiswal got to his second Test ton with a six off Hartley. The joy for Indian fans didn’t last long as Iyer was out for 27. Tom Hartley had the batter looking to play a cut shot and Foakes did the rest.

Rajat Patidar played some crisp shots during his debut knock of 32 but bad luck struck. Rehan Ahmed got the ball to bounce and Patidar saw the bails get dislodged. Axar Patel batting at number six scored 27 before offering a simple catch to Rehan Ahmed.

KS Bharat who was playing in front of his home crowd got a huge ovation but his stay was short. India’s wicket keeper scored 17 runs as he was caught by Bashir to give Rehan Ahmed his 2nd wicket.

After 92 overs of play stumps were called with Ravichandran Ashwin batting on 5. Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was on 179 from 257 balls with 17 fours and 5 sixes. Team India will look towards the youngster to take them past 400 with the pitch starting to play tricks.
