The Sunrisers Eastern Cape made history as they defeated the Durban Super Giants in Qualifier 1 of the ongoing SA20 2024 league on February 6. Notably, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape team advanced to the finals with a convincing 56-run victory over the Durban Super Giants. However, it was skipper Aiden Markram’s spectacular one-handed catch that took the spotlight in Qualifier 1.
The accident occurred when DSG was struggling at 13/2 after 3.4 overs in SA20 2024. Notably, star bowler Ottniel Baartman was bowled out by JJ Smuts, who attempted a pull shot towards midfield. Though he was unable to get enough of it, it appeared capable of clearing Aiden Markram.

Speaking about the game here, Sunrisers Eastern Cape piled up 157/8 in the given 20 overs. However, during the chase, the Durban Super Giants could only manage to get 106 runs before getting all out, which helped the Sunrisers Eastern Cape reach the finals.

The opening batter reveals that they had executed their plans well, which helped them win the game. Moreover, the middle-order batter opens up about how they changed their plans after the rain and how it helped them reach the finals.
“The team is full of characters who want to fight and I am fortunate that they were up for it today. We focus quite a lot on conditions, see what is our best chance to win and execute those plans. The wicket changed a lot before the rain and after rain. It is huge, you want to be in finals, we have won it once and to do it again will be fantastic. We have had a busy week and to get an extra couple of days off will be great,” Aiden Markram said at the post-match presentation after the win.
