Delhi Capitals star Arundhati Reddy fined for breaching WPL’s 2024 code of conduct vs UP Warriorz

Delhi Capitals cricketer Arundhati Reddy was penalized ten per cent of her match fees for breaching the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024) code of conduct during the team’s game against the UP Warriorz on February 26. Notably, the incident happened at the M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium during the Delhi Capitals’ comprehensive nine-wicket victory over the Warriorz.

A statement from the WPL 2024 confirmed the penalty, stating, “Arundhati Reddy from Delhi Capitals has been fined 10% of her match fees for breaching the WPL Code of Conduct during her team’s match against UP Warriorz at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Monday.”

“Arundhati admitted to the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.5 of the WPL’s Code of Conduct which relates to using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon her dismissal during a match. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the statement reads further.

Arundhati Reddy scalped one wicket against UP Warriorz in 4th game of WPL 2024

Speaking about the game here, it was Delhi Capitals skipper Meg Lanning who won the toss and invited UP Warriorz to bat first in the game. Notably, after being sent to bat first, UP Warriorz had posted 119/9 in the given 20 overs. The side had an awful start to the game as skipper Alyssa Healy departed for 13 runs while Vrinda Dinesh was out for zero runs. Following them, star batter Tahila McGrath also departed for just 1 run, while Grace Harris could only manage to get 17 runs.

However, it was Shweta Sehrawat who made 45 runs to help them post decent runs on the board.
Delhi Capitals had a great start as skipper Meg Lanning went on to hammer 51 runs from 43 balls, featuring six boundaries, and struck the great stand with Shafali Varma, who also hammered unbeaten 64 runs from 43 balls, featuring six boundaries and four sixes, to help his side chase down the total with 33 balls to spare.
