‘Khushi nahi lag rahi hai’ – Fans react as RCB women go down to MI women by 7 wickets in WPL 2024

RCB women lost to MI women in the WPL 2024 by 7 wickets. There was no effort from the team to win the match. After losing the toss, everything went downhill for the home side. Despite the cheers from the home crowd, RCB women could not lift themselves up. The fact that the pitch was good to bat on but there was a lack of intent from the batters summed up everything.

Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Devine, and S Meghana perished early. It meant that the RCB batters took fewer risks than they usually would. MI women gave no room for the batters and bowled in tighter lines. Barring Ellyse Perry and Georgia Wareham, no other batter looked to play some shots. Even they were slow at the start of the innings.

Pooja Vastrakar and Nat Sciver Brunt were the pick of the bowlers for the visiting side. Amelia Kerr and Saika Ishaque claimed a wicket each. But it was Pooja and Sciver who claimed two wickets each and damaged RCB a lot. Wong claimed the big wicket and sent shivers in the RCB dugout. Despite the little striking towards the end, RCB managed to post only 131 runs on the board.

Yastika Bhatia and Amelia Kerr star in the run chase

While RCB women lacked the intent to score runs, MI women had an exactly opposite outing with the bat. Right from the start, Yastika Bhatia went after the bowlers. The low-scoring chase meant that the Southpaw had all the freedom in the world. In a quick time, she raced away to 31(15) and perished. Hayley Mathews did not have to do anything fancy from her end and just anchored the run chase over RCB women.

Amelia Kerr joined the party too. The finisher scored 40*(24) as MI women chased down the total with 29 balls to spare. Hayley was back among runs. Nat Sciver Brunt did her bit and helped MI women chase down the total. RCB women now have two losses in a row. They would be hoping for a win in their next game. MI women have climbed the top spot in the points table.
