‘What a perfection’ – Fans react as Delhi Capitals beat Gujarat Giants by 25 runs in 10th game of WPL 2024

The Delhi Capitals won the tenth game of WPL 2024 as they went on to beat the Gujarat Giants by 25 runs on March 3 at M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore. Speaking about the game here, it was Gujarat Giants skipper Beth Mooney who won the toss and invited the Delhi Capitals to bat first in the game.

Notably, after being sent to bat first, the Delhi Capitals posted 163/8 in the given 20 overs. Skipper Meg Lanning took the onus on herself as she went on to hammer 55 runs from 41 balls, which gave them a great start. However, following her, Shafali Varma, Alice Capsey, and Amy Sutherland also combined to post a decent total against the Gujarat Giants.

Meanwhile, during the chase, the Gujarat Giants failed to have a great start as skipper Beth Mooney was dismissed quickly. However, no batter could contribute many runs to the team, which just made them score 138 runs in the 20 overs, making them lose the game by 25 runs.

It’s all about putting up the runs on the board going forward: Beth Mooney

Meanwhile, Gujarat Giants skipper Beth Mooney expressed displeasure after her team suffered four straight losses, keeping them almost out of the playoff race of the WPL 2024. The top-order batter revealed that they were great at bowling, as they restricted them to a good score, but they failed with the batting, making them lose their crucial encounter. Moreover, the opening batter feels that they failed to capitalise on things in powerplays, which makes them lose the game.

“Disappointing, we’d have loved to be on the board, it was close in the end, but we needed a big partnership. Fair enough (on the fielding), the bowling has been disciplined, we let them down to be honest, not up to standards, saw how well they fielded. You want to get off to a good start, but they bowled very well, not being three down in the batting powerplay, it could have been different. The batters haven’t been good enough, me included. It’s all about putting up the runs on the board going forward,” Beth Mooney said after the loss.
