‘It’s a little difficult sometimes’- Suryakumar Yadav gives an interesting answer on handling people’s expectations
Suryakumar Yadav has made countless fans with his masterclass batting display in the last year or so. He finished the year 2022 as the highest run-getter in T20 internationals. In 31 matches, the Indian batter amassed 1164 runs at an average of 46.56 and a strike rate of 187.43. Besides, hit two centuries and nine half-centuries in the 12-month period.
Suryakumar began the new year in sensational fashion. In the third T20 internationals against Sri Lanka, he played a brilliant knock of 112 runs in just 51 balls. With his consistent run-scoring, he has raised the expectations of the fans. When asked how he handles the pressure that comes along with the expectations, he said:
“It is fun. It feels really great. Whenever you go to a different city, you are getting that recognition. At the same time, you can forget what you have been doing before achieving all this and how you have reached till here. It’s a little difficult sometimes, but I just try and remain the same.”
In his T20 international career so far, Suryakumar Yadav has managed to score 1578 runs in 45 matches at an average of 46.51 and a brilliant strike rate of 180.34,
Suryakumar Yadav also highlighted how he approaches his innings. The 32-year-old said that he tries and play according to the situation.
“I think I try and play situations, whatever situation I bat in. If I am batting at 4, 5 or 6, I look at the situation – what the team demands at the moment. Whatever the team demands, I just go through the motions.”
India are currently playing a three-match ODI international series against New Zealand. The first match is underway at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. India have managed to score 51 runs for no loss in 9 overs, at the time of writing.
