‘Usually I don’t speak to my partner but it was Virat bhai’- Ishan Kishan opens up on ‘big player’ Virat Kohli’s role in his Double Century

Ishan Kishan brought out a sensational double century against Bangladesh writing his name into the history books. A double century in just 126 deliveries made Ishan Kishan the fastest batter to achieve the milestone.

Kishan has credited his incredible knock to Virat Kohli’s help from the other end. The recently inducted double centurion has spoken favourably of the star India batter’s experience.

“It feels really very good. When Virat Bhai was walking in, I was only thinking that today I’ve got an opportunity to bat alongside him. I didn’t think of such a big partnership, but it was a matter of pride to bat with him and learning a lot of things. Watching them from the non-striker’s end and observing how such players remain calm in crunch situations, use the opposition bowlers, what they can try and why… and usually I don’t speak with my partners while batting. But since it was Virat Bhai, I was trying to speak to him and learn whatever I can,” Ishan told reporters.

Kishan also spoke of Kohli’s celebration that he did for his double-century knock. The 34-year-old was seen celebrating Kishan’s double hundred before the player himself.

“What I feel is, he always gets happy for me when I do well. In fact, whenever other players do well, he celebrates and I’ve seen it. And when such players are delighted for you, it obviously makes you feel happy and motivates you. I also want him to keep scoring. He is such a big player, we also want to see him get 100 hundreds,” Ishan concluded.

India posted a huge total of 409/8 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. In response, Bangladesh could only make 182 and lost the match by a huge 227 runs. As a result of this victory, India were able to avoid the whitewash and get a bit of pride back.
