Chennai franchise star fast-bowler likely to miss the entire season of Indian T20 League 2023- Reports
New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson is unlikely to play in the upcoming season of the Indian T20 League for the Chennai franchise due to a possible back stress fracture. The 28-year-old has already been ruled out of the Test series against England starting on February 16.
“It’s really gutting for Kyle to have this happen after he’d put so much hard work in to getting himself back on the park,” said Gary Stead (head coach of New Zealand), as reported by InsideSport.
“Since the injury in June we’ve certainly taken a cautious approach to managing his return with regular monitoring by our medical staff which has included scans,” Stead further added
Jamieson hasn’t played international cricket since June after he sustained a back injury against England last year. He was bought by Chennai in the 2023 auction for the price of INR 1 crore. Now as it is doubtful whether he will feature in the T20 league or not, Chennai would be looking to find his replacements in the likes of Maheesh Theekshana, Nishant Sindhu, Tushar Deshpande, and Matheesha Pathirana.
Trent Boult got overlooked for the replacement
As Jamieson is ruled out of the upcoming Test series, the uncapped fast-bowling duo, Jacob Duffy and Scott Kuggeleijn have been called as the replacement and are likely to make their Test Debut for New Zealand.
Stead also said that there was also a discussion about calling Trent Boult as a replacement but the selectors decided to go on with the uncapped players. Boult is no longer a player in the central contract of New Zealand. The board released the 33-year-old from the deal in August 2022 and allowed him to pursue T20 franchise options and spend time with the family.
“We have spoken to Trent Boult recently and it has been decided since he gave up his contract that we will give priority to the locally contracted players and we have done that on this occasion,” Stead added.
“It does not mean we have ruled Trent out from anything in the future. There will be ongoing discussion and we’re not sure what the landscape of the cricket world will look like in six months. It might change again,” said the New Zealand coach.
