Bangladesh vs India 2022
‘He might not play in XI because of KL Rahul, Shubman Gill’ – Dinesh Karthik’s bold claim on Indian batter
A talented top-order batter from Bengal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, is one of the notable names in the Indian domestic circuit. He has been one of the most prolific batters in the longer formats and has been knocking on the doors of the national selectors from season to season.
Easwaran is known for his solidity and temperament in the red ball circuit as seen in the Ranji Trophy time and again. He is one of the rare old-school breeds in the modern era where it is all about powerplay and big-hitting. His big break has come ahead of the Bangladesh tour in Tests, being selected for the squad for the series. However, India batter Dinesh Karthik is not convinced that Easwaran has enough to get a nod into the playing XI in Tests.
“Abhimanyu Easwaran has been around the circuit for some time now, has done really well and now deservingly gets his opportunity,” said Karthik on Cricbuzz. “He might not play in the XI because of KL Rahul and Shubman Gill… for sure they will open.”
That kid is somebody who has worked so hard: Dinesh Karthik
“I can promise you he’s another guy who has been constantly banging at the door. He has been a very good servant for Bengal in the four or five seasons.” The Bengal captain has had a glittering First Class career, scoring 5,576 runs in 78 matches at an average of 45.33 with 18 hundreds and 23 fifties.
“His dad is someone who has a fantastic ground in Dehradun, have fond memories of going there. That kid is somebody who has worked so hard, I’ve seen him, I’ve played with him, practice with him. I have seen how hard he works,” added the former Tamil Nadu captain.
“Credit to the selectors for giving a lot of time to these performances that happen in domestic cricket because sometimes it can go unnoticed, it’s good to see them getting noticed,” Karthik concluded.
