‘Kal maza ayega important day hai’ – Shubman Gill scores his second Test hundred as India finish Day 3 of Ahmedabad Test on a high
The fourth and the final Test between India and Australia in Ahmedabad is heading to an interesting finish as India have finished day three with 289 runs on board with the loss of 3 wickets. The hosts are currently 191 runs behind Australia’s first inning total of 480 runs.
The main anchor of the Indian batting on day three was young batter Shubman Gill, who scored his second Test hundred. The 23-year-old got out after scoring 128 runs off 235 balls hitting 12 fours and a maximum. Gill has been in tremendous form for the past few months as he scored his maiden Test ton in Bangladesh in December 2022.
He then went on to score an ODI double ton against New Zealand in January. He continued his red-hot form in T20Is as well as he became the sixth Indian batter to score a century in the shortest format.
Starting the day with 36 for no loss, Gill and the skipper Rohit Sharma went on to add 74 runs before the loss of the first wicket. Rohit was looking in good touch but he got out on 35 off 58 after he tried to take on Matthew Kuhnemann on the last ball of the 21st over, but ended up giving a catch to Marnus Labuschagne.
Virat Kohli also scored an half-century
After that, Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara put up a century partnership of 113 runs for the second wicket. Pujara also got out after stitching a good start as he got bowled leg before by Todd Murphy in the 62nd over. He scored 42 off 121 balls, a knock which had three boundaries.
Gill was then joined by Virat Kohli, who scored a half-century and is still at the crease on 59 runs off 128 balls including five boundaries. Kohli was joined by Ravindra Jadeja in the 79th over. Both Kohli and Jadeja are unbeaten and will continue the game for India on day four.
Australia are still 191 runs ahead and they will be looking to bowl out India as soon as day four starts. Usman Khawaja was the star of the Australian inning as he got out after scoring mammoth 180 runs off 422 balls. He was accompanied by Cameron Green, who scored his maiden Test hundred, scoring 114 runs off 170 balls. Ravichandran Ashwin was the leading wicket-taker for India as he scalped 6 six conceding 91 runs in the first inning.’
