Kane Williamson, the former Test captain of New Zealand, has been dealt a cruel setback by being ruled out of the men’s 50 over World Cup 2023 in India later this year. Williamson injured his knee while performing to grab on the boundary for Gujarat Titans in the first game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. 

After tests on Tuesday revealed that Williamson had torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his leg while playing for the Gujarat Titans, it was determined that he would need an operation on his injured right knee. Within the next three weeks, Williamson will presumably have knee surgery. For the remainder of the IPL 2023 season, Williamson was replaced by Dasun Shanaka of Sri Lanka by reigning champions Gujarat Titans.

Williamson has amassed 6,554 runs in 161 ODI games at a fantastic average of 47.83 as well as a strike rate of over 80. In this style, he amassed 42 fifties and 13 centuries. It’s going to take some time, but I’ll be doing everything I can to get back on the field as soon as possible. I look forward to doing what I can to support Gary and the team over the next few months.”
