‘Fir wahi tewatia aur punjab’ – Fans react as Rahul Tewatia guides Gujarat Titans to victory by 6 wickets against Punjab Kings in IPL 2023

After losing the last fixture against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets, Punjab Kings locked horns against the defending champions, Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, in Mohali on Thursday, April 13. Titans won the match by six wickets and Mohit Sharma was awarded the Player of the Match award for his brilliant performance.

If we talk about the encounter, GT skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to ball first. Batting first, the Kings scored 153 runs for the loss of eight wickets after the completion of the first innings. The highest scorer for the home side was Australia’s Matthew Short, who scored 36 runs off 24 balls with six. Their wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma also scored a crucial knock of 25 runs from 23 balls with five fours.

For the visitors, the pick of the bowlers was Mohit Sharma, who snapped two wickets in his spell of four overs where he conceded only 18 runs in his spell. One wicket each was grabbed by Mohammad Shami, Alzari Joseph, Rashid Khan, and Joshua Little.

The Gujarat side chased down the target on the second last ball of the match. The highest scorer for the side was  Shubman Gill, who scored 67 runs from 49 balls with seven fours and a six. Their wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha scored 30 runs from 19 balls with five fours.

“I have had a good time at this venue. I thought of sticking to my variations, had a chat with Hardik in the middle overs, luckily it paid off. You need to train hard, give your 100 percent. Need to bowl according to the situation, and stick to the basics. I was given a role to bowl after 10 overs. Credit goes to the coach who has defined everyone’s role in the team,” Mohit was quoted as saying on post-match presentation.
