‘Form ke saath saath, saaman bhi chori’ – Fans react to Delhi Capital’s equipment being stolen

In addition to 16 bats, pads, shoes, thigh-pads, and gloves, the Delhi Capitals players’ equipment bags went missing once they arrived back to their home base in Delhi on Sunday. After their Indian Premier League match versus Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium the day before, the team took off from Bangalore that afternoon.

According to reports, five bats belonged to teenager Yash Dhull, three belonged to captain David Warner, two to all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, three to wicketkeeper-batsman Phil Salt, and three to all-rounder Mitchell Marsh. Some other cricketers have misplaced their shoes, gloves, and other accessories. Each bat used by foreign players costs about one lakh rupees.

On the day that they collected their kit boxes in their individual rooms, the players were informed of the defeat. The franchise officials were informed of the situation and filed a complaint alleging widespread theft from their kit bags. The Delhi Capitals somehow made it possible to practise on Tuesday. A number of them asked their bat businesses to send a handful of them for the next game by contacting their representatives.

What did the Police say about the incident?

The DCP of the Delhi Police spoke to the Indian Express, “Our duty officer asked them to write a complaint with all the details and gave them a paper. They said that they would get all the details and will file a complaint. Appropriate legal action would be taken.” A source close to the Delhi Capitals has spoken regarding the incident because this is the first time this has happened in the 16 year history of the league. The source said, “All of them were shocked when they heard that everyone had lost something or the other from their kit bags. This is the first time such an incident has happened and the matter was soon raised to the logistics department, police and later at the airport. The investigation is on.”
