‘De diya na dhokha angrez ne’ – Fans react as LSG’s fast bowler Mark Wood set to miss final stages of IPL 2023

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have suffered a huge blow in the ongoing 16th edition of the Indian Premier League as their premium fast bowler Mark Wood is set to miss out the final stages of IPL as he will be returning back to his home in England to attend the birth of his daughter in late May this year.

Wood has played only 4 matches this season so far but his performance has been really effective as in just 4 matches he has taken 11 wickets which include a fifer as well against Delhi Capitals (DC). However, he missed out the last two matches for LSG due to illness. And it’s now a really big concern for LSG as he will be not present with the team in the crucial stage of IPL.

“Mark Wood and his wife Sarah are expecting their second child towards the end of May, and Wood will fly home at some point in the coming weeks in order to be present at the birth. At this stage, it appears unlikely that he would return to India afterward” reported ESPN Cricinfo.

LSG is performing brilliantly this season

However, Wood’s absence didn’t make any impact on LSG’s performance as Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq has produced great bowling performances in the last 2 matches for LSG. In his first match of the season, Naveen bowled brilliantly against Rajasthan Royals (RR) as he conceded only 19 runs in the 4 overs he delivered. While in the second match, he again produced a brilliant spell as in 4 overs he took 1 wicket and conceded only 19 runs again.

Meanwhile, LSG are set to play against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 28 and after this, they will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on their home ground. Their performance in the league is brilliant so far as they have registered 4 wins in the 7 matches they played in the season and are currently sitting in the 3rd spot.
