‘Buri nazar wale tera muh kala’ – Fans react as Kohli, du Plessis and Maxwell help RCB to have most half-centuries in IPL 2023 so far

The 16th season of the Indian Premier League’s halfway point has arrived, and the top seven teams are vying for positions in the playoffs in a pretty heated competition. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), one of these teams, has won consecutive games for the first time in the IPL 2023 and will be going for a hat-trick when they host Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

This will be the RCB’s sixth and final home game before they go on a five-match road trip. They haven’t turned the Chinnaswamy Stadium into their fortress, as they have in the past, losing two of the five games that have been played there. Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and Virat Kohli have accounted for 78.6% of the runs that the RCB players have scored this season in their batting order. All three have smashed 12 combined fifties in the season so far, which is more than any other team.

But since Brendon McCullum set the tone for the IPL in the opening game in 2008, RCB haven’t had a fantastic home record against the Knight Riders. The last time RCB defeated KKR at home was back in 2015. But now, facing a squad, who are under pressure after four straight losses, RCB will be looking to snap the losing streak.

How can RCB make their middle order strong?

Meanwhile, the totals RCB reached in their last two games show that a shaky middle order hasn’t been able to take advantage of the strong starts, while their bowlers have covered up those flaws. It is believed that if the top-3 batters of RCB get failed simultaneously, them RCB will be losing the contest easily as their middle order is yet to produce anything special for the team.

With the likes of Dinesh Karthik, Mahipal Lomror, and Shahbaz Ahmed, the RCB middle order isn’t looking strong and the fans have witnessed it already. The addition of Michael Bracewell might help them but it isn’t looking possible as Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is also eying a spot in the playing XI.
